Old Navy recently sent out an email to all of it’s affiliates about their new Women’s Plus line that is only available online.
They included some very interesting statistics about the women’s plus size market.
- 43% of the retail apparel market is Women’s Plus.
- By 2012 Women’s Plus is projected to grow to 62.4 billion dollars.
- Women’s Plus will grow 20% over the next 5 years.
These statistics indicate that America is only going to get more plus sized, which makes this niche (if you can call it a niche because of how big of a market it is) a very big opportunity for clothing companies and affiliate marketers.
Fashion industry will have to change
I imagine that many other fashion retailers who currently don’t sell plus size clothes will start rolling out new clothing lines specifically for the larger woman. They can’t ignore almost half the women in America.
Great opportunity for affiliate marketers
As an affiliate marketer I love when companies like Old Navy send out emails like this. They tell us what the current condition of a market is like and what to expect in the future.
Somebody looking to create a new affiliate marketing web site would be smart to give serious thought to creating a site around women’s plus size fashions. There are many sub-categories with in this market that could make for great affiliate opportunities as well.
Companies and affiliate marketers who recognize that their consumers are changing and change with them should do very well.
