Google’s personal search, which has been out for quite a while, is starting to catch some steam (sorry, no source here, just my personal opinion). As time goes on, we’ll see more and more people feel comfortable letting Google store their history (which I’m sure they do anyways). As the users of personal search grow, we’ll see a distortion in natural results - especially in the top results.
As we know by click studies, a very large percentage of organic clicks happen on the first 3 results. As search engines start delivering more “personal” and local results, those top spots will (possibly) be dedicated to those servings. That leaves a very small percentage of clicks for natural organic listings.
So what does that mean? It means companies will have to rely less on organic listings and more on paid and local. That falls under SEMs and not SEMs.
Whatever happens with search, it will be interesting. We’ll see some very new changes as users become more and more comfortable sharing their information. What do you think?
