Review of Post Level Text Link Ads

I recently purchased some Post Level Text Link Ads for one of my clients and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Post Level TLA’s are positioned just below the end of blog posts and before the comments. Advertisers are allowed to have a full 80 character title and 150 letter description, and there can be only one advertiser per post.

What I like about Post Level Text Link Ads:

  • Post Level TLA’s blend into the site content better than Text Link Ads because they aren’t surrounded by a bunch of other links.

  • Since Post Level TLA’s are placed in the content area of a blog, there is a good chance the link will get clicked on. One of the Post Level TLA’s I purchased brings in 20 - 30 visitors per day.

  • Post Level TLA’s are positioned higher up in the code than most Text Link Ads. This is because most publishers put their TLA’s in a right column or at the bottom of the page.

  • An 80 character title and 150 letter description is a lot of real estate for you to get your message across and further influence the keyword density on the page.

  • Post Level TLA’s are very affordable. They cost:
    • $5 for posting on a page with a PR2.
    • $6 for posting on a page with a PR3.
    • $8 for posting on a page with a PR4.
    • $10 for posting on a page with a PR5.

What I don’t like about Post Level TLA’s:

  • Text Link Ads doesn’t provide a direct link to the blog post until after you have purchased the ad. Being able to see the post before you purchase it can help you in deciding whether the post is right for you. They do provide the title of the post and a direct link to the web site, but having to do a search on the site for that post is a huge waste of time.

  • Before your Post Level TLA, the words ‘Related Link:’ appears. This could be a tell for Google that you have purchased a Post Level TLA, especially if you have purchased a lot of them.

Like all things SEO, I suggest buying Post Level Text Link Ads in moderation and placing them on sites or pages that are similar in content to the site you are marketing.

Definitely an interesting tool to check out. I’ve become a little bit concerned about using text link ads after doing some research and finding that Google wants to crack down on the practice since in their minds people are essentially selling page rank in addition to a link. I think the advice to use these types of ads “in moderation” is very good as there is definite uncertainty right now as to what Google will do.

If you’re blogging on WordPress, do consider WP Text Ads.

I’m the developer of this free plugin that lets you sell text links directly to advertisers. This means you pay no commission and get paid instantly.

Furthermore, you can sell ads by the home page, blog wide or per-post.

Thanks :)
