Pizza.com sells for $2.6 million

Chris Clark recently sold pizza.com for $2.6 million. He originally paid $20 for the url.

It looks like Chris had been trying to monetize the site through Google ads and an Amazon store for pizza recipe books. Unfortunately the big pizza companies like Pizza Hut, Dominoes Pizza and Papa Johns Pizza don’t have affiliate programs. If they did, this domain would have sold for a lot more.

It will be interesting to see how the new owner attempts to monetize the site. “Pizza” gets searched for over 3500 times per day and searches with “Pizza” in it get searched for over 150,000 times per day. That’s a lot of search traffic.

My guess is that one of the big pizza companies bought the domain.

Wow thats a lot of pizzas. I would have had to take the money + free pizza for life. I wish I was older when the net came to be. I would have bought pizza, taco, hamburger etc etc.

2.6 is still a handsome ransom. You’re probably right, it could have definitely sold for more if the buyers had a plan to monetize already. Either way, it’s a dominant domain.

Wow, that’s a crazy price. If I can sell my domain with the price like that I will be on leave for a while :-D

If I sold my domain for $2.6, I’d definitely take a “little” vacation, but I would definitely keep building business… we are living in inflationary times ;)

2.6 million dollars! Sick, that’s a lot. He must be very lucky to get 2.6m for that site. How much was the site earning?
