A few months back I noticed that a large competitor of one of my sites always sent out their newsletters on Mondays.
This competitor is the type that would have done studies to figure out what day has the best return. But I still wanted to know what’s so great about Monday? Why not Wednesday or any other day of the week?
Well, I found the answer yesterday in a ZD Net post from November 2004. Here’s what the post said:
Atlas DMT anonymously analyzed holiday shopping behavior across 28 companies. Mondays are the busiest online shopping day, according to Atlas DMT. The finding points to the fact that consumers shop in physical store locations during the weekend, then jump online on Mondays to comparison shop. The Atlas study reports that Fridays, typically slow days for online shopping, are stronger than usual during the holidays. Weekdays between noon and 3 pm EST, are the most active online shopping days during the holidays.
Now that makes a lot of sense. People browse brick and mortar stores over the weekend, then find the best price online on Monday. Armed with this OLD information we should all be able to improve our internet marketing.
Like my competitor, I will be moving my newsletter to Monday and I will also try to crank up my PPC campaign on Mondays.
