In the February 2008 issue of Inc. Magazine there is a short article about how gDiapers is using online videos to help promote their eco-friendly diapers.
As a new dad I was very interested in the product, and as an internet marketer I was interested in the marketing side of this story. I had to investigate further.
gDiapers sells their biodegradable diapers via their web site and through retailers like Whole Foods. They spent $5,000 to produce 4 online videos that show consumers how to put the diapers on a baby, how to flush them down the toilet and how they break down once flushed.
The videos weren’t of the highest production quality, but they were very effective in getting me more interested in the product. An informative video can be a great way to teach people about new baby products.
The article claims that the videos helped to double their revenue last year over the previous year. Not bad for $5,000.
This is a great story for a couple of reasons. It shows how effective a marketing tool online video can be and that it doesn’t take a large budget to create effective online videos.
