Buffalo Wild Wings have come up with a clever way to promote their “Boneless Thursdays”.
The new Wild Messages website allows users to select from three vocal characters (a sexy teacher, a referee, or a drill sergeant) to created a personalized message, inviting their friends to meet them at Buffalo Wild Wings for “Boneless Thursdays.”

The humorous message can then be sent to a friend’s mobile phone or email address.
A similar campaign was used to promote the recent Transformers DVD, where people could send out messages using Optimus Prime’s voice.
Mobile advertising is becoming more popular, but it is growing much slower than many of us expected. This likely has a lot to do with both advertisers and cell phone carries being cautious about being too aggressive with what is still considered to be a consumers personal space.
Both Buffalo Wild Wings and Transformers have got around this personal space issue, by creating a word of mouth campaign, where their promotional message seems less intrusive because it is being passed on by friends.
This definitely fits right in with the concept of friendship marketing that we discussed in our interview with Brandon Murphy of 22 Squared.
