By default almost all blog platforms use the nofollow tag on comment links. This makes commenting on blogs a poor way of building links to increase search rankings.
However, over the past 6 to 12 months there has been a small movement to remove the nofollow tag on blog comments. There are over 400 blogs that have joined the No Nofollow | I Follow | DoFollow Bumpzee community.
Why remove the nofollow tag on comments?
The main reason to remove the nofollow tag is that it could drastically increase the amount of comments you receive on your blog. Think of it as the prize at the bottom of the cereal box. A reward for commenting. Also a reason to come back.
Why not remove the nofollow tag on comments?
By removing the nofollow tag on comments many blogs are giving up their link authority to those who comment. This can seriously hurt search engine rankings. Search engine traffic can be critical for those running ad programs like Google Adsense.
Each blog owner must decide for themselves what is more important. Comments and a greater sense of community or traffic from search engines. This internet marketing blog uses the Show Top Commentators plugin as a way to reward regular commentators. In my opinion this is a better way to keep people involved because they have to continually comment to get our link love.
How to use the No Nofollow | I Follow | DoFollow Bumpzee community
I am more than happy that these blogs have abandoned the nofollow tag and I hope that more follow their lead. Commenting on these blogs can be a great way to get inbound links. I suggest that you add something meaningful to the conversation and not spam them.
Here are some tips to get the most out of commenting on No Nofollow blogs:
- Put the keywords you want to rank high for in the name field and your web site in the URL or WEBSITE field.
- Don’t always use the same keywords. Vary it up a bit.
- Try deep linking to other pages on your site.
- Comment on the most recent post because it will have the greatest chance of being indexed soonest.
- Look for a list of most popular posts in the sidebar and comment on those posts. These posts should have more authority to give out because they are linked to from every page on the blog.
- Use the search functionality on these blogs to find posts that have the keywords that are important to your site.
If you are interested in removing the nofollow tag from your blog, visit this Andy Beard’s Blog post. He shows you how to remove the tag from Blogger Blogspot, Moveable Type and Typepad. FYI, Andy started the No Nofollow | I Follow | DoFollow list.
Another good No Nofollow resource is this PDF created by Mark Cook of Digerati Marketing which lists over 200 Do Follow blogs and their Page Ranks.

I’ve always thought that if you simply do what you love, you’ll end up with the traffic you desire. I have one site that is purely a hobby site - it’s simply ‘Judo Book Reviews’ - and I’m listed number one on virtually all search engines. Granted, it’s a pretty small niche, but I’ve actually never done any SEO work at all on the site. No articles, no directory listings, nada. (Of course, I also only make several hundred dollas *a year* from the site…)
I understand the link bleed that can occur - but you also develop traffic. I link freely to resources that I think my membership wants to see. I’ve never been a fan of the ‘no-follow’ tag… even though it might actually be slightly against my own self-interest.

I thought the rel=nofollow idea developed by Google could have the death or just weakening of the PageRank measure — but this hasn’t occurred yet.

It really depends if whether or not you care about the google page rank. I guess it is a personal preference to have the nofollow or the do follow on a blog or site.

Google has destroyed ranks of many blogs because they did not have no follow - my sister has a blog with no links in her posts or comments and she still got hit - weird things happened in Oct and Nov with google this year…not good!

With blogging I think it is always about the community and less about search engines so this problem should not be that important , eve if I do weight it enough and I didn’t remove the no-follow attribute.

I didn’t realize that by default nofollow was the rule. I’ll start paying more attention to the blogs that don’t have no follow and reward them with more comments. This site is my #1 bookmark.

I think the Do Follow movement maintains the core of what the Internet has always been, an open medium for sharing information. I don’t think that we should become link hoarders just because it benefits the SE’s.
Contrary to popular opinion the Internet is much, much larger than Google, MSN, Yahoo & Ask combined and more traffic is shared between websites that link to each other than SE’s could ever dream to have.
Long live DO FOLLOW!

I think that dofollow combined with good moderation is the best way to go. If the comment contributes to the post, and is not something like “good post”, then letting them post a link is worthwhile.

“Thanks to share it. Are anybody suggest me about how to check a blog link comments in do follow or not?”
Go to the page source, find the comment, and look for a “rel=nofollow” tag in the URL tag
“We think it’s unfair for noFollow blogs to comment on doFollow ones for the PR.”
Yea, that is kind of cheating

Commenting on Do Follow Blogs is a great way to build one way links. Although you will have to make sure that your comments are useful to the discussion as webmasters moderate the comments and are aware of people submitting useless random comments just to get that one-way link.
