Late last week I received an email from One Way Back Links that said they have an extra 2 million text links that they need to sell by the end of the month. That sounds like a lot of links.
I wanted to get the skinny on One Way Back Links, so I called the number in the email. I spoke with a guy named Dave who gave me the run down.
What’s the deal?
Just over a year ago One Way Back Links started creating a lot of directories filled with free articles. They now have over 1000 web sites with over 100,000 pages. They sell three different types of links on these pages:
- Article Links
Article Links are static text links that can be placed at the bottom of any article in their system. They have a search tool that allows you to search the entire database of articles to find ones relevant to your web site. With Article Links you can create your own custom anchor text titles.
- Category Links
Category Links are static text links that can be placed at the bottom of all the web pages within a certain category. Each time you place a Category Link your link will appear multiple times on that website. They have over 60 categories of articles. With Category Links you can create your own custom anchor text title.
- Keyword Links
Keyword Links are static text links that you can be placed into the body of articles based off the keyword(s) that you choose and that already appear within an article. One Way Back Links’ search tool allows you to view the amount of inventory they have for different keywords.
What’s the cost?
It costs 1 credit for Article Links, 100 credits for Category Links, and 5 credits for Keyword Links. 3000 credits will run you $55 per month. That equals out to less than 2 cents per credit.
What’s the problem?
With most things in life, you get what you pay for.
- Duplicate content
All of the links that One Way Back Links is offering are on pages that are filled with duplicate content. Most search engines are not a big fan of duplicate content and may not index the pages.
- Low Page Rank
I looked at a handful of pages in their system and all of them had no Page Rank. Dave told me that some directories have home pages with a Page Rank of 5, but most will have a 2 or a 3. It is not good to have most of your links coming from pages with low or no Page Rank.
- Many pages aren’t even indexed
I also noticed that many of the pages weren’t indexed by Google. There is no point in having links to your site on pages that aren’t’ being indexed.
- Unnatural link pattern
Getting a few thousand links in the matter of weeks could leave your link pattern looking very unnatural. Something I would try to avoid.
Free Credits
Dave was kind enough to give me 200,000 free credits to test the system out for a month. There was no way I was going to use the credits towards bringing links into an already established web site that I have. So I created a one page web site at a domain that I’ve been sitting on for some time. I used 100,000 credits towards 2 different keywords coming into my new web site.
My guess is that One Way Back Links will have some effect on MSN Search, little effect on Google, and almost no effect on Yahoo! I will report the results of my free trial in a months time.
One Way Back Links is quantity over quality
To conclude, One Way Back Links is probably not an SEO magic pill. It could also do more harm than good to your web site because of all the low quality links. If you do use the system, I would suggest being very picky about the pages you put your links on.
