After months of testing, youTube has finally rolled out its in video ads to the public. 15 seconds into a video, an overlay ad will appear over the bottom 20% of the video. This overlay will be 80% transparent and will animate for up to 10 seconds before disappearing on its own. You will have the option of closing the overlay ad immediately if you want. These overlay ads will contain links that can trigger a video ad. If you choose to watch the video ad, the video you are currently watching will pause, and then the “player-in-player” video ad will begin playing, and disappear once it is finished. Google estimates that 75% of people will watch the full player in player ad.
The good news is that these in video ads will only be attached to a very small percentage of youTube videos. To start, ads will not be playing on typical user generated and submitted material. Only youTube producers with large followings and larger media partners will be able to place ads on their videos. What is unclear, is if in video advertising on youTube will be accessible to small internet marketers in the way same way that adwords and adsense have been. I’m sure there will be a lot more to discuss on this subject in the upcoming weeks and months, stay tuned.
