Internet marketing, which is currently defined by wikipedia as “the use of the Internet to advertise and sell goods and services,†has become almost a necessity for businesses in the twenty-first century – online or offline. Unfortunately for some, this industry moves very quickly and it can be quite difficult to penetrate the market or stay up to date with current trends. Adding an affiliate program to your site is one way to market without having a large up-front cost. You’ll only be paying money out to your affiliates if you bring money in. However, the largest drawback is that affiliates could represent your company or website in a poor manner by using spam, hidding links, and performing shady tactics. You can either have the affiliate program in-house or have it through a network like cj.com or shareasale. There are drawbacks and benefits to each, such as costs, time, and technology. While I suggest that most companies should have an affiliate program, the majority of marketing and advertising should not be done by affiliates.
