Free Press Release Distribution Sites

I recently wrote on writing and distributing a press release on a budget, but I wanted to follow up with a list of websites that offer free distribution. Most of these sites have Google News inclusion, so you can expect the press release to show up there as well.

Obviously this is just a small list, so if know you would like to share a site, feel free to comment and I’ll add it to this post.

EDIT:

  • AP
  • Local newspapers (with a local spin on the press release)

Spread the word: del.icio.us Digg Furl Reddit StumbleUpon Technorati

What advantage do the paid press release services have over the free ones you listed, asuuming there is an advantage that is.

Great question. Basically, paid distribution services usually guarantee Google news inclusion, are listed higher on the distribution website, allow you to create your own anchor for links, some type of helpdesk support, and usually have a broader reach (email top stories to list / more traffic to site / etc). Below is a list of the features a $200 release receives at prweb.com

Ten Industry Targets, URL Keywords, NewsCrafters Consultationâ„¢, News Image, Hyperlink Anchor Tags, Increased Google Sitemap Placement, eBook Creation Wizard, Yahoo Site Match 3x, SEO Statistics, Next Day Distribution, Five MSA Selection, eBook Industry Digest, PR TrackBacks, PR Tag Clouds, SEO Wizard, Quotables, Pheedo Distribution Network, PRWeb Page One Inclusion, Social Bookmarking, Yahoo Site Match 2x, Three MSA Selection, RSS Group Feeds, ViewNews Daily & Category Inclusion, Yahoo Site Match, Topix News Inclusion, Yahoo News Inclusion, iFrame Website Feature, PDF Release Version, PRWeb Page Two Inclusion, Five Industry Targets, Two MSA Selection, Image Thumbnails, Account News Feed, eMediaWire Distribution, File Attachments, Google News, Hyperlink URL Activation, Industry Feeds, Newspad Search Engine Inclusion, Basic Statistics, RSS Group Creation, Printer-Friendly Version, PRWeb Help Desk Support,PRWeb Hosted Release

The best free distribution of all is http://www.AP.org ;) Just look for the appropriate beat writer, editor, or regional bureau, and fax or email the release off to a real newswire. :)

Great tip Jenn. Id also recommend putting a local spin on the press release and sending it to local newspapers (both large and small).

Thank you for including my site in your list prbuzz.com. Regarding the “Google News” question, we make sure that all of our press releases get into “Google News”. If anyone does not get into “Google News” they just need to let us know and we will fix the problem.

As far as the AP.org comment goes, good luck with that. AP is definately a real newswire, I agree 100% but for most of us, that is not very practical. They are not going to pick up the news about a new web site or any other small news. They like stories involving BIG events. Only they decide what they like and what they do not like. Even if you use a paid service that has a relationship with AP, they may only pick up 1% of the stories. Also, you need to be aware that AP and the other big wire services do watch “Google News” for ideas.

btw: that local spin idea is excellent.

Oh, we are one of the free ones, go check out our site and compare features to the expensive paid services. You will be very surprised. prbuzz.com
