Horrible and Offensive Ad Targeting by eBay / Google

google ebay ads

Has eBay forgotten the phrase “quality over quantity?” It seems Google is letting them have a standard advertisement then filling in a blank with the searched keyword. I never knew I could bid on so many things at eBay!

Seriously eBay (and Google). What we have here is horrible advertisement targeting, which is costing you money. Many of the advertisements can be considered offensive, which is hurting your image and costing you money.

What eBay should have done (and still should do) is had an internet marketing specialist go and create SPECIFIC advertisements for each category, then used top 100-300 keywords in each category (which I’m sure they have) for that specific Adwords campaign. While it might take a small team some time to do, relevant advertisements will be shown which will increase click-through-rate and as well the conversion rate.

For example, and advertisement like “Looking for Camping equipment?” then, when clicked, you are redirected to the “sporting goods” category.

I find that so amusing, though I have a horrible sense of humour. I’m going to see what I can find…

Is it bad that I laughed? Seriously though, I think I laughed more at the fact that these are actually ads being shown by one reputable company for another (mostly) reputable company.
