I recently have a been purchasing a number of links for various sites at the the digitalpoint forums. I created threads asking to purchase links in various subjects. I had a number of responses and the average link price was $10 for a PageRank 5 link. I would then check the statistics of each domain and then make a counter offer on each link. I was able to get the average price for a PageRank 5 link to just $7. Site owners realized that if they did not drop the price, they would not have a link sale. Every single person ended up dropping their price, with some even dropping from $12 to $5. However, be polite about the process. It’s best to point out why you think the link is worth less, which can be done a number of ways. Some of the ones I used where:
- Pointing out that the website was less than three months old
- I had purchased a link on a similar site for much less
- Commenting on the location of the link. For example, a footer link is worth less than a sidebar or header link
I’m surprised that there has not been more discussion on this topic, so I ask, have you (or do you) haggle link prices?
