On Tuesday Facebook announced it’s new advertising strategy to the world.
It comes in the form of Social Ads, Facebook Pages, Beacon, Insights, Platform and Polls.
Social Ads - allow marketers to create an ad and target it precisely to the audience they choose. Ads can be displayed in the left hand ad space, as well as in a news feed when attached to a relevant social story. Simply write an ad, choose a target audience, and
decide where you want to drive traffic. Social ads can be purchased based on number of clicks (CPC) or number of impression (CPM).
Facebook Pages - is free, so any business wanting to market themselves on Facebook will start by creating their own Facebook page. Facebook users can become fans of a business and interact with them just as they would their friends. Those interactions become stories that are sent across news feeds and can be seen by a businesses fans and their friends.

Google has been making waves with two noteworthy announcements.
The first is the announcement of the Open Social api that would allow developers to create a single application that would work across multiple social network.
This is in direct contrast to Facebook applications that are written in FBML (Facebook markup language) and are only designed to work inside Facebook.
Many big names have already announced their plans to adopt the Open Social standard including LinkedIn, NewsGator, Ning, Hi5, Orkut (Google’s own social network), Plaxo, and most notably MySpace, the world’s biggest social network (Google has secretly been in talks with MySpace over the last year). Six Apart, the owners of Moveable Type, TypePad and LiveJournal have also annouced they will adopt Open Social.
Rather than each social network having to develop its own markup language, it appears they have decided to line up with Google in favor of Open Social. If Open Social takes off, Facebook will have to give serious thought to adopting it.

“The reality of making $5,000, $10,000, $20,000 [per day] and putting millions of dollars in your pocket through Facebook applications is absolutely possible.”
Those words were spoken by Jason Bailey at a recent Facebook Developers Garage in Vancouver.
In the following two videos Jason gives a few examples of how some Facebook applications are making a [...]

It was announced today that Microsoft beat out Google, Yahoo! and many others in the bid to be the exclusive third-party advertising partner for social network Facebook.
Google has agreed to pay $240 million for a minority stake (less than 2%) in Facebook, which is valued at over $15 billion dollars.
Microsoft now has the exclusive [...]

As I pointed out in my How to make money with Facebook post a few weeks back, most of the money being made on Facebook is because of Facebook applications.
Create a Facebook application like Top Friends, which has almost 3 million active users, and you could be into some serious Internet dough.
To date more [...]

The rise in popularity of the soon-to-be number 1 social network site Facebook is due to a combination of two things.
1. Formerly a hangout only for high school and college students, Facebook allowed anyone to join in September, 2006.
2. In May, 2007 Facebook opened up it’s network to developers.
By opening up it’s network to developers [...]

Nielson Co. one of the worlds largest marketing research companies, and the people who bring us our TV ratings and Nielson NetRating has launched their own social network called Hey! Nielson.
I applaud them for the transparency of placing “Nielson” in the company name, because they could have just as easily kept this affiliation a lot more low key.
The new social network is a place for users to share their opinions on TV, movies, music, personalities and the internet. All the things that Nielson writes marketing reports on.

Facebook groups have become the single biggest story in internet marketing and PR over the last few months. When Facebook first started out as a student only social network, Facebook groups were small gathering places for students to look outside their circle of friends and find people with similar interests and discuss anything from their favorite bands to their favorite sports teams.
Students soon realized the power of these groups and began using them to organize and even protest. Now that Facebook has been opened up to the public the number and variety of Facebook groups has exploded.

Social Networks are hot right now. This summer, I can’t imagine any one company or brand getting more free PR than Facebook. Reporters are falling all over themselves to find Facebook related stories. I’m sure I’m not the only one who grins every time I hear “Are you on Facebook?”
Social Networks have gone from popular to pop culture, and Facebook, youTube, and mySpace have all entered the general lexicon. With all their success and millions of monthly visitors, the one problem all social networks seem to share is how do we make money? And the answer everyone seems to be coming up with is targeted advertising.

With the new updates at Google, companies using YouTube to advertise, and video use up, it’s time to start thinking on how to get videos to rank well organically.
Like any other organic search project, you need to write quality title tags. However, since your main purpose is people not search engines, you’ll [...]

Coming up with a kick ass, scalable ad platform solution for social video that satisfies the needs of publishers, advertisers, and viewers is only a piece of the problem. While finding the most [...]

Over the past few months I’ve been experimenting (informally) on how to get a site indexed and ranking in Google within 24 hours. I was able to successfully achieve front page listings on Google in 14 hours for a 2 word term that had 5,000 exact matches. It wasn’t a major keyword, but [...]

A little more than a month ago, I created an internet marketing community on BUMPzee. It’s grown slightly and now has 13 blogs, with a nice selection of general marketing, seo, sem, and affiliate. It also has 16 members and nearly 700 entries. I’m looking for other internet marketing blogs to join [...]

More and more companies are starting to leverage social media for advertising. Here is a great example of Quicken Loans and the Cavs with an etch a sketch video on YouTube.
The video has been featured on boingboing, makezine, espn, advertising age, digg (front page). Pretty impressive.
I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of [...]

eBay announced today, it’s acquisition of StumbleUpon in a $75million all cash deal. There have been lots of rumors and reports over the past month or so, and I had posted back in April that eBay was going to acquire StumbleUpon, though the speculated price was just shy of $50 million.
TechCrunch writes:

A recent press release by eMarketer has stated that social network marketing will reach $2.5 billion in 2011. eMarketer increased it’s estimate of US advertising spending on social networks to $900 million in 2007. The increase comes from two factors: increased revenue projections for Facebook and additional spending on niche and marketer-sponsored social networks. [...]

I’ve been reading reports over the past few days stating that MyBlogLog will be rebranding itself. Back in January, Yahoo! bought MyBlogLog for a rumored $10 million. I would think the rebranding will integrate MyBlogLog with Yahoo!’s other services as well as a possible name change (YahooBlogLog, MyYahooLog, etc) to further integrate the [...]

Facebook.com, the popular social networking website, now has 70 featured groups with the largest having over 440,000 members.
